Just get it Andy ;)

If you change your mind you can always sell it on for a profit if you do a bit of the work that needs doing.

As I said before, it'll be great fun in the summer.

Nick

I kinda of like parts of it..... but, i'm going to go against opinion here and say unless the guy is going to virtually give it to you or you have had a very long desire to own a wizard roadster, stay away from it. From a, buy it to possibly sell on, point of view i'd say its a non starter, the value of a 1302 roadster (which from a selling point of view is an undesirable conversion on an undesirable car - like to state thats not me slating either type of car, just from a selling point of view) is always going to be very low. My other concern would be the amount of work needed to get it looking right again, all of the panels have been blended, which means that the damaged rear valance would be a pain in the arse to repair, as its blended to the wings, thats if you can get one of the valances as i think that beetlezone that took over from wizard roadsters may have gone out of business. If this is the case the engine lid and rear section may also be difficult to replace. Add paint into the equasion and to get it looking nice again you are looking at a fair bit of cash.

Okay...So I've put the wheels in motion......we're getting in touch with the current owner to see if they will sell and how much!

One piece of interesting news is that it isn't a Wizard....I've done a bit of research and I belive it to be a Malibu Speedster. It was converted in the US using a US kit. So I've decided to keep it a Lefty.....If I get it?!

There's a small part of me that likes the fact it's a 1302.....It's tax exempt, It's not that common but the parts are easy to get hold of especially if I keep it a lefty as I can get stuff direct from the states if there isn't a part in the UK! It'll handle better than a standard beetle too without having to do that much modding...which is a bonus!

Yes there is a bit of glasswork to do to get it back upto scratch but it's only the burn't glass and a small crack that needs attention. It'll need a respray anyway so that's no great issue!

Oh an Paulski thanks for that...all good points... But if I get hold of it this will be a keeper. ;)

So I have to wait for a response now....Watch this space but don't hold your breath because it might be a while before I and then you find out.....

Oh and did you spot the anti roll bar on the front and rear suspension and the fact that the rear has been lowered......Not sure about the front...I think it's adjustable??? Not had a great look at that yet....Plenty of time though.

Ingenious use for a wiper motor, i guess that's what the previous owner had laying around and thought "I'm gonna use that".

I think a bit of thought went into that one as he's done it to both doors.

So I've decided to repair the damaged fibreglass area's (there's only 2 small spots) and not respray the car this year....bit of a lack of funds so I'll run it as it is.... 8-)

As for the engine...I've had a bit of a look and I still can't figure out why it caught fire (too much of a mess in there) safe to say it was either a perished fuel hose or maybe one of those plastic fuel filters too near to a heat source. :o

I've got a pair of baby dells which are crying out to be fitted once I've cleared out the melted mess and given it a bit of a clean up. I'm gonna see if I can refit a stock vac dizzy and build another transistor ignition amplifier box to spare the points! ;) I'm looking forward to sorting out the wiring as it's all melted together......I'm hoping it'll be relatively straight forward. :lolno:

There's a bit of clever stuff to make doors, windows, bonnet and deck-lid open.....I've designed a circuit to help using a free program called Yenka. :ugeek: Should be interesting to see if it'll work in the real world and not just in simulation.

Apart from that there's the small matter of a bit of mechanical stuff...well I need to make sure the brakes are okay...I'm expecting to need to replace the master cylinder. Oh and I've got to convert the lights for UK use.

And once I've done that little lot I'll only have to get the car age registered, mot'd and taxed...Oh and insured. ;)

I'd like to get it back on the road for June'ish so I can enjoy the sun. But funds might stop that from happening.....we shall see. I'm hoping to start on the engine in the next few weeks. If I remember to take my camera with me I'll post some pics.......
